Tips on How to Start a Home Made Soap Business
Wed, Oct 21, 2009
You have finally learned to make your own soap even if it took you a lot of failed batches before you were able to perfect it. Now is the time to decide whether you want people to learn about your soaps through your giving them out or you want to continue making them and earn as well. One of the fastest businesses to go into is the home made soap business.
Going into the business of manufacturing and marketing of soap will teach you a lot but there would be times when things may go wrong. But do not despair! Here are some tips that will help you on your way to building your business.
Your Product
Be sure that you have the right product/s and that they are done professionally. If you have been giving your soaps away as gifts get some feedback from them so that you can come with a line of soaps you can introduce. Your product must be competitive and should also look professionally done.
The Scent
One reason why people buy soap is the smell. If they do not smell anything or if a soap has a very faint smell it is considered as an unscented soap. Usually unscented soaps do not sell because people do not see any value when soaps do not smell. When making your soap be sure that you put the right amount of scent or you should learn how to calculate the right amount for the quantity of soap you are making.
Your Own Soap
Make your soaps uniquely yours. Your soaps should have their own identity so that they will stand out against your competition. You know that there are a lot of home made soaps out there and people are aware of the benefits of using homemade soaps against commercial soaps. You have to be able to show why your soaps are better than the rest of your competition.
Your Initial Sales
Sell your soaps as fast as you can. Do not crave for large profits at this stage because you need to first make your soaps known in the market. You need to move a big volume of your soaps in order to earn a profit rather than doing door-to-door or direct selling. What you can do is to offer your soaps to an outlet which take in the bulk of your products at a price a little over than your retail price.
Repeat Orders
Of course all soaps when used will surely dissolve. This means there will be repeat orders especially when your customers enjoy using your soaps. You also need to get your customers info so that you can follow up with them for repeat orders. You can introduce a different kind of soap each month or make a set of your soap bar and liquid soap. You can email or send out flyers about your monthly promotions to your customers.
It is easy to start a home made soap business but you have to address the demand of the people who are looking for quality soaps.
